Prince of Plastic - Regis-R @ YIA GALLERY! 11, rue Chapon, Paris 3ème
so, my weekend in Paris mainly consisted of people watching and drinking in Le Marais but i did manage to see some cool modern art at an exhibition showing the work of Regis-R. also known as the 'Prince of Plastic', the artist behind the works on show at YIA GALLERY. 11, Rue Chapon, Paris 3ème, may be decribed as a 'creative recycler'.
having previously worked as a designer in the studio of Philippe Starck, his work is always bright, modern and in most cases, functional.
furniture moulded from plastic objects otherwise deemed as trash, including a candelabra made from melted bottle tops, a stool crafted from a plastic bucket and a red, free standing lamp that gives little clue to it previously functioning as washing up bowls, buckets and road cones.
Regis-R's use of light appears to be a common theme, making many of his pieces functional as modern lighting. he has also created some interesting wall art, appealing to those wishing to have a little of Regis-R in their homes without buying into the furniture.
if you are in Paris over the next few weeks, try and check this out.
